The second week of the Great Priority Cook-off turned out to be more varied and colourful than the first week, with the fruitful presence of Constance’s Strawberry-top Chocolate Cake and Angelia’s Summer Pear Cake.Yum yum – both these cakes looked and tasted WONDERFUL! Luckily the two cakes were not competing with each other: the Chocolate Cake was up against Amelia’s spiced-up Red Vegetable puree, and the Summer Pear Cake took on Sharmini’s Sauteed Mushrooms.
The dishes presented this week were not only colourful but also leant more towards the Vegetarian side, as only two out of the eight featured meat – namely Nolan’s unconventional dry Mee Siam and Gerlynn’s spicy Teriyaki Chicken pasta.
The Priority diners lapped up Nolan’s Mee Siam – quite different from the traditional Mee Siam with gravy. Nolan’s culinary expertise was pitted against Francis’ Kee Zhang, a bold and surprising attempt coming from the newest addition to the Priority fraternity. To quell any doubts as to his mastery of the kitchen, he produced photo evidence to support his claim that this popular traditional Chinese delicacy was indeed Made By Francis!
In the final match-up, Gerlynn’s aglio olio based chicken pasta met Aloo Tikki Chaat prepared by Kairavi, the vegetarian Queen of Priority. This is a favourite street food of Delhi, consisting of potatoes and sago with traditional spices and chili, teamed with chilled yoghurt sauce.
What a gastronomic combination! We enjoyed a major vegetarian influence on the main courses and were spoiled with two fabulous cakes for dessert. In fact this week’s top scorers are Angelia’s Summer Pear Cake (the perfect choice for the season) and Constance’s Hot Chocolate Cake! Priority clearly has a sweet tooth. Nolan’s Mee Siam and Sharmini’s delicate Sautéed Mushrooms were next in the voting, with the others bunched closely together.
We are now all keenly looking forward to next Monday’s round. What is in store? Priority awaits impatiently, mouths watering…
