You simply wouldn’t believe it! It couldn’t have been more shocking if it was a New Paper lead story!
After establishing beyond doubt that curry, in all its glorious varieties, was the Priority favourite, and proving this fact with a succession of crushing victories, Kunalan turned his back on his speciality, chose to present an admittedly delicious mee goreng – AND LOST!!
The gasps of amazement from the Priority crew must have been audible up and down Mohamed Sultan road, but the table didn’t lie. It was there in black and white. The winner of the second semi-final, and therefore of a place in the Grand Finale, is Angelia! Her brilliant contribution of a melt-in-the-mouth apple turnover, featuring choux pastry and a feather-light dusting of icing sugar, took the second semi-final crown.

Left training in Angelia’s dust was not only Kunalan, but also Kairavi, whose final contribution to the Cook-Off was an outstanding baked rice with vegetables and cheese topping. A very possible winner on any other day. Completely outside the points was a despondent William, who failed to produce a dish owing, according to him, to a catastrophic failure of culinary resources.
So we bid farewell to Kunalan, Kairavi and William, all of whom have contributed a wonderful variety of dishes to the Cook-Off experience.
And we now eagerly – nay, hungrily – anticipate next Monday’s Grand Finale, pitting Nolan, who has been a dark horse throughout the contest, against Angelia, whose extensive range of culinary styles has brought her to this climactic moment. One of them will be going home with tickets for a grand dinner for two at Marina Bay Sands – and whoever it is, the prize will be richly deserved.
The Priority diners are deep in debate as to what dishes will grace the table on Monday. The track records of our two finalists suggest a traditional Singaporean offering from Nolan, against something more exotic from Angelia.
