Techade – How Will India’s Future Transform The Nation
When Narendra Modi first coined the phrase “Techade”1 (a portmanteau of tech and decade) in 2022, he outlined a vision of India transforming – one that embraced the digital revolution and established a leadership role in the global market.
Encompassing 5G telecommunications, to Artificial Intelligence, to Cloud applications, Techade was building on initiatives such as the national identity card Aadhaar2 card (2009), Digital India3 (2015), and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission4 (2021).
Since its launch in 2009, it is estimated almost 1.38 billion national identity Aadhaar cards have been issued, registered. Similarly, through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)5, more than 380 million health accounts (ABHA) have been generated with 262 million health records digitised.
India’s tax system has transformed with e-filing, e-invoicing and other related services being deployed and managed. This has increased government efficiencies as well as improving the quality and efficiency of government to citizens services.
Prime Minister Modi’s government has been working to support private sector growth in Artificial Intelligence (AI), through its AI Mission including “AI for All”6 programme, by enabling access to national datasets as well as supporting on high performance computing resources7 and talent building.
Today, India is one of the fastest growing AI markets in the world, ranking highly on global AI skills penetration, with a large and growing AI developer community as well as significant investments in AI infrastructure.
As a result of the confluence of talent, private sector engagement and strong government support for AI and cloud development, today we note several Indian companies venturing globally including Haptik8, HCL Technology9, Infosys and Tata Elxsi10.
Recognising that education is key to driving adoption the Indian government has rolled out a public relations programme to educate Indian consumers, private enterprises and public sector organisations on the merits of technology, specifically AI tools, cloud applications and digital transformation. Make no mistake. The task of educating India is a gargantuan task, but one that can only be achieved by education and building the understanding, consensus for the value of digital transformation.
Technology and AI companies should investigate India’s national public education strategy. The value of public education improves their profile, increases industry visibility and enables them to leapfrog the competition. Whether it’s international markets, or access to funding or establishing mutually beneficial partnerships, public relations provides the “air cover” to marketing and sales efforts.
Through a measured engagement programme, companies and organisations give themselves the platform on which to build a position as a trusted advisor – educate their publics on the merits of digital transformation.
Not everybody gets it immediately. And some of us need more information, data and time before we show interest or take action.
Public relations as a discipline educates, informs and explains technical or complex concepts to those who should be implementing. Some of those publics are not technically inclined – be they teachers, data workers, business managers, decision makers and influencers or regulators.
Building campaigns to educate and inform, engages these “non-technical’ audiences and includes them in the trust and intellectual journey that you require your audience to embark as they build the trust and view you as an advisor and an information partner.
Engaging them on multiple levels and channels on this journey and ultimately success helps especially today we utilise social, online and direct channels to gather information. However, among all the media and influencer channels are particularly effective especially for business communications (B2B).
This is the pre-cursor to marketing and sales activities that your organisation may be implementing in the market. A solid base of understanding, followers and advocates generate a better return on marketing and sales investments.
