Responsibilities:
- Undertake the necessary reading and research to understand the areas of business of the company’s clients, their competitors, the industry sectors and all relevant and associated trends and background information.
- Knowledge should be sufficiently in depth to engage the media in discussion and prepare pitch and briefing documents for the clients.
- Develop and maintain a database of journalists, reporters, bloggers and other influencers Key Opinion Leaders) within Malaysia and establish one-to one relationships with these individuals.
I. Media Relations
- Identify opportunities to localise client news releases, blog posts and international news to make the information newsworthy for local media distribution to meet the established KPIs for each client
- Distribute to the assigned local and/or regional media and follow-up with phone calls, any client related news releases to ensure coverage
- Draft and distribute media pitches and secure interviews for the client spokespeople and set up hospitality meetings with the targeted media representatives for any and/or all company clients
- Pitch and negotiate placement of opinion and thought leadership pieces on behalf of the company’s clients and their spokespeople to local and/or regional media
- Meet the established and agreed client KPIs through timely and pro-active media engagement
II. Social Media and KOL/Influencer Relations
- Identify suitable social media channels and pitch / distribute client news such as news releases and blog posts
- Follow-up with phone calls and through other means to secure engagement and coverage
- Pitch and secure media meetings (interviews, hospitality meetings) with targeted social media representatives, KOLs and owners for any and/or all company clients
III. Account Management
- Update all templates, trackers and online tools to deliver timely and accurate reporting
- Provide on-the-ground support for client requirements and requests including the procurement of venues, information collating, local market research and data gathering
- Manage ad-hoc projects including budget, timelines and deliverables in accordance with agreed metrics
- Any other tasks required to fulfil the client work scope and support the company.
Qualifications:
- Degree in a reputable local university/institution majoring in business, technology, politics, economics or communications
- Excellent spoken English as well as local language and able to share ideas verbally
- Strong analytical and critical thinking about what is happening in current affairs
- Detail oriented, with great presentation and communication skills
- Able to work independently and remotely – this is critical as team members are mostly based in Singapore, India and the rest of Southeast Asia
